Flexibility Hack #3: Target


Gravity Yoga Nervous System Hack #3 is called ‘Target’.

This is how it works: once you’ve ‘Pinged’ your body and it’s told you where it’s tense, you’ll zoom into that area with your awareness and build a three dimensional bullseye around it.

That 3D bullseye will become the target for you to breathe into during your ‘Lunar Breath’.

This nervous system hack rests on the fact that breath (volume) and tension cannot coexist. Aka when you flex your abs, you cannot breathe into your belly.

‘Target’ reverse engineers this fact. By aiming your breath into tension, the tension literally has to release. The laws of physics dictate it.

Over time — as you get the hang of this technique — two things will happen:

(1) You will be able to aim into multiple targets.

That is, if you notice tension in both your right shoulder and your left foot, eventually you’ll have enough concentration to create two bullseyes — one on each body part — and breathe into both simultaneously.

(2) Your target will become smaller and more refined.

That is, you will have enough focus to aim your breath into locations as tiny as 1mm x 1mm x 1mm, or as subtle as your kidneys, or as astral as a past-life memory.

P.S. ‘Targeting’ takes some time getting used to. Try it out in “Pigeon Pose” on the practice section. Applied correctly, this hack will propel you inches deeper into the stretch than you are used to!
