Flexibility Hack #5: Fracture


Gravity Yoga Nervous System Hack #5 is called ‘Fracture’.

This is how it works: after ‘Scrubbing’, you’ll take 1 → 3 more sips of air into the ‘Target’ before exhaling and going limp.

This is also called a “double inhale,” but we call it ‘Fracture’ in Gravity Yoga, because the naming works better for the analogy of water and energetic barriers.

Water? Energetic barriers?

I talk about it in my Deeper. Slower. Easier. Level 5 training, but this is the gist: energetic barriers are erected in your body due to unprocessed physical, emotional and psychic trauma. And these energetic barriers — dams — are blockages through which energy can no longer flow. And energy that can no longer flow is synonymous with tension.

In this analogy, ‘Fracturing’ is basically slamming water up against a dam, and hoping that cracks begin to appear on its surface.

Or, to summarize:

Energy flow = water = breath.

No energy flow = energetic barrier = dam = neuromuscular tension = poor mobility.

Inhale into energetic barrier = water slamming against a dam = eventually breaks through = tension release = flexibility progress.

Now maybe it takes 10 breaths to break through a dam you’ve put up. Maybe it takes 10,000! The number of breaths required to open you doesn’t matter — it’s the fact that they can be used to open you up. You are not doomed to tension and inflexibility. You can be freed.
